Managing layer health challenges as cage-free demand increases
Almost a third of US eggs are produced in cage-free systems, a figure that’s set to double in the next decade as retailer and consumer demand for cage-free eggs increases.
The shift requires major changes in the way birds are produced, and that means changes managing bird health and welfare too.
Experts from across the industry talked to Poultry Health Today about the challenges producers face when it comes to adapting to cage free systems, and outlined the practices producers will need to adopt if they’re to ensure flocks remain healthy and productive.
