Mountaire vet thinks ‘pendulum’ will fall in the middle of poultry antibiotic debate

While some US poultry companies are going “no antibiotics ever” and others are defending their right to use all FDA-approved medications to protect flock health, one veterinarian thinks it’s only a matter of time before this swinging pendulum comes to rest in the middle.

“Normally gravity takes over and [the pendulum] ends up in the middle — and the middle satisfies most consumers,” said Don Ritter, DVM, Mountaire Farms, in a recent interview with Poultry Health Today.

He described the “middle” as being a certified program verifying responsible antibiotic management.
